a.i. form development study

cad modeling / keyshot rendering

This process is part of a research endeavor aimed at integrating Midjourney, an a.i. powered image generation tool, into my design workflow.

Initially, I compile a mood board consisting of images that capture my interest. Following

a meticulous selection and parameter adjustment phase, I choose the image that resonates

with me the most and proceed to convert it into a CAD model.

By adding a.i. into my design process, I am able to greatly shorten the time duration of my

process while keeping the quality of the design.

4 steps of a.i. form development workflow

collection

The initial phase of this process involves the careful assembly of a mood board.

This mood board is a curated collection of images that not only pique my interest

but also serve as a source of inspiration for the design concepts I wish to explore further.

gerneration

the next step involves a detailed and thorough process of screening and parameter

tuning. During this phase, I engage in an iterative process of evaluating each image

against a set of predefined criteria and adjusting various parameters to refine the visual output.

filter

After completing the screening and parameter tuning, I proceed to the final selection

phase. Out of the multitude of refined images, I select the one that stands out the most

in terms of its alignment with my design vision and the emotional response it evokes. This chosen

image transcends its initial digital format, becoming the foundation upon which I build further.

modeling

The culmination of this process is the transformation of the selected image into a cad model.

This step involves translating the visual and conceptual essence of the image into a detailed

and precise digital model.

image generation & idea iterations

Images above showing the process of a.i. generations. first I chose some images that inspired me online to feed the a.i. to see what it could come up with, then I select serval ideas that I like to refine. after serval rounds of generation I land on the images that inspired me the most to work with.

surfacing

Using surfacing tool in solidworks to get the main body shape. all sides are built using the same surface to keep a consistancy of form.

Using loft tool and surfacing technique in solidworks to build the arms and the propeller details.
